Her Trasnsformation by Lusekelo Simwela

INTRO

The was born a caterpillar
So pure, so innocent
She was beautiful,
Both in the inside and outside

But nothing ever satisfies
So she thought of changing
‘Changing for the better’ she said
So she went away
Away to figure herself out

A few years later, she came back,
She came back and broke out of the chrysalis of youth.
And what a site that was,
People stood, mouth agape and amazed at the beauty that she had become

She then flapped her wings for the first time
And everything was well,

She was a good butterfly,
Working all day, helping the flowers out

But alas, she soon got dissatisfied
Dissatisfied with life itself
Wanting more than flowers during the day
Craving a more exciting life; the nightlife

So she stopped coming out during the day,
The night reeled her in, as it without a warning engulfed her whole,
She got the thrill as she danced on them poles
Slowly moving towards the darkness

The darkness slowly dissolved beautiful colours
Dissolved her colours to black
Like the night that she loved so dearly
The butterfly was now a moth

She started to feel the cold stares as she walked by
Barely able to cover herself with her smaller wings
She tried to come out during the day again
But she couldn’t, the sunlight burned her eyes

So she got addicted to flashing lights
Dancing and flying to them whenever she saw them
Lights flickering, almost blinding
Like staring at a white paper in the sunlight, (lights flickering like coins falling against the sunlight)

At last, she saw a great light
It wasn’t day so she knew she could get to it
She flew to it thinking it was her redemption
She reached it and felt its warmth

It was so intoxicating,
Therefore, she flew right into it
The next thing she felt was pain, pain all over
Her wings were burnt
They burned in the desperate attempt to escape the fire
Leaving her on the floor, flightless and hurt

The from nowhere a cat came along and swallowed her
Seconds later, he realised his mistake
But it was too late
He spat her out!

She limped away covered in saliva
As the cat gasped for air
She was the bringer of death
She had become death itself

This work is an introduction to a compilation titled Productive compilation.  Below is the preface to  the compilation. You can request the compilation as a PDF by emailing to (youthmalwriters@gmail.com) with the subject line (Productive Confusion).

We are all confused; confusion is a normal state of mind. My confusion started on day one when I opened my eyes for the first time. There were people surrounding me, moving their mouths. “What are they saying?” then I turned to the woman holding me, she was smiling. I wanted to smile too but I didn’t know how; how confusing!! Then the rest of them started taking turns carrying me and I started to cry. They thought that was a good thing, “a baby must let some air into its lungs,” they said. That was the first breath of confusion.

I am confused, but you are confused too, for we are all searching for answers, confusing answers. We are always searching for that thing that will happen that will change everything. That thing that will make everything makes sense. That point in our life we think we will truly be happy, satisfied. When we reach what we thought it was, it never feels the way we thought it will. That is very confusing, right?

I accepted my confusion, I embraced it; but in my confusion I came up with this; THE PRODUCTIVE CONFUSION._Lusekelo Simwela
